Ray Ryan – Musical Director

Ray has been conducting choirs since he was 18, and has been MD of BMVC since 2006. He studied piano, clarinet and singing in the College of Music in Chatham Row, winning scholarships in singing, the tenor solo in the Feis Ceoil and the Percy French trophy in the Arklow Feis. He got a very solid grounding in choral singing, as well as a love for it, in the Palestrina choir in Haddington Road, which he joined at the age of seven.

In 1971, Ray joined the Rathmines and Rathgar musical society, and has been involved in stage musicals ever since, both on stage and in the pit. In 1975, he co-founded the Marian College musical society, and a year later he founded the Firhouse Singers, both of which are still going strong today.

In addition to directing BMVC, in his spare time (!) Ray enjoys arranging music for the choir.

Graham Walsh – Musical Accompanist

Our accompanist is Graham Walsh. Best known as an organist and conductor in musical theatre, Graham has worked with us for several years. He accompanied The Kings Hospital Chapel Choir on their recent journey through to the final of the All Island School Choirs competition. Until recently, he was organist and choirmaster in St. Pauls church, Glenageary, and is now the resident organist to The Kings Hospital Chapel.

In musical theatre, his conducting credits include Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Man of La Mancha and Copacabana all of which have received critical acclaim. (Sweeney Todd received 8 nominations and 6 Awards, including “Best Overall Show” and “Best Chorus” and was invited to participate in the prestigious Waterford International Light Opera Festival)

He has Won First Prize in the Association of Irish Musical Societies Choral Competition with St. Johns Musical Society and been nominated as “Best Musical Director” on three occasions.

Graham is an Honours Graduate of NUI and holds a Licentiate from the Trinity College, London. He teaches music in the King’s Hospital School, Palmerstown, where he specialises in keyboards [piano, organ, electric keyboards] and computer-aided music composition. He also plays Harpsichord and has conducted the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Brandon Ensemble.
